Calls for better broadband in Eigg
07 September 2009
David Stewart, Highlands and Islands regional Labour MSP, is backing calls for better broadband access for remote and rural communities.
It comes as the MSP heard first hand how the development of Eigg is being hampered by satellite services.
Mr Stewart said: "My colleague, Peter Peacock, is a long time campaigner for better broadband access for remote and rural communities and is currently pushing the case with Ofcom and service providers."
"Eigg is the latest community to express its frustration at patchy service.
"The satellite service, currently supplied by Avanti, provides varying levels of speed and connection."
Mr Stewart added: "The residents I met in Eigg were clear in voicing their concerns at their current service and were also very clear about how the service hampers their economic, business and educational development.
"Along with my Labour colleagues, I will be continuing to push the case for better access to broadband provision across the Highlands and Islands."
