Wee W opens

19 September 2009

David Stewart, Highlands and Islands regional Labour MSP is congratulating the WeeW team in Stornoway as their new store opens.

The outlet is creating 28 new jobs on the island, providing an economic boost to the area.

Mr Stewart said: "The opening of the new WeeW store is a massive boost to the local economy. 28 new jobs are being created and, during this particularly difficult economic time, it is only going to benefit people in Stornoway.

"All those involved in getting this project off the ground deserve congratulations for their excellent work and I have tabled a motion in the Scottish Parliament congratulating the store manager, Terry Ovenstone and his team."

Mr Stewart added: "This is great news for Stornoway and hopefully this will go a long way towards helping to continue to regenerating the town centre as well as the economy."

David Stewart’s motion reads :

That the Parliament welcomes the opening of the new WeeW retail outlet on the main street in Stornoway, Isle of Lewis, in the autumn of 2009; notes that this will help regenerate the town centre, assist with the economic and social regeneration of the island and create 28 new jobs, following the closure of the local Woolworths store earlier in the year; congratulates all those involved, particularly Terry Ovenstone who will be the manager of the new WeeW store, and wishes the new WeeW every success for the future.
