Historic Highlands and Islands Sites

20 February 2017

David has tabled the following member's motion in the Scottish Parliament

Increase in Visitors to Historic Highlands and Islands Sites

That the Parliament congratulates Historic Environment Scotland's staff, working at its Highlands and Islands sites, for dealing with increased visitor numbers over the past 11 months; notes that Urquhart Castle, on Loch Ness-side, saw a 13% increase to visitor numbers, welcoming 380,152 people; further notes that over 7,300 more people than last year, a total of 91,860, explored Skara Brae on Orkney, while 58,098 stopped off at Fort George, near Ardersier, and praises the agency for helping develop heritage tourism, not only in the region, but across Scotland where a record-breaking four million people flocked to its sites over the same period.
