Stewart  Gets Behind Oxfam

New International Development Convener volunteers at Lerwick Oxfam shop

Highlands and Islands Regional Labour MSP David Stewart, the new Convener of the Cross Party Group on International Development, joined local volunteers at the Lerwick Oxfam shop recently to help sell and sort out donations.

He is calling on others to follow his example in the fight to end global poverty by volunteering a few hours per week at the shop at 80-82 Commercial Street, or by making a donation.

Speaking of his support for Oxfam, Mr. Stewart said, "I’m delighted to lend my support to Oxfam’s work.

"The money raised makes a real difference in projects around the world.

"It only takes a few pounds or couple of hours a week to help end poverty and suffering. That’s why I am doing my bit, and asking others to do the same.

"My new role as Convener of the International Development Cross Party Group gives me an opportunity to highlight the work that still needs to be done for those living in poverty around the world. "

Justin Smith, Shop Manager said,

"We are thrilled that Mr. Stewart could get behind Oxfam and volunteer in our shop.

"It helps to raise local awareness about development issues and what Oxfam does.

"Anyone who has some free time, or some good quality goods that they no longer want, or who wants to meet people living in or around Lerwick working to end global poverty, should come into the shop and find out the unique way they can get involved. "
