About

David was raised in Inverness and qualified as a Social Worker in 1981 and worked in Dumfries until he moved back to his home in 1986. He was a middle manager for 10 years before being elected as the first Labour MP for Inverness East, Nairn and Lochaber in 1997 and represented the area until 2005. He was then Assistant Director at SCVO from 2005-2007 before being elected as a regional MSP for the Highlands and Islands in 2007.
He is a road safety campaigner and has been awarded numerous awards from Brake for his road safety work and he has represented Scotland twice as a Scottish Diabetes Champion in Melbourne and Vancouver.
David is the Shadow Minister for Health in the Scottish Parliament and is involved in various cross-party groups such as Brexit, Health and Diabetes.
