Highland MSP seeks answers regarding Cal Mac ferry disruption

24 April 2018

Highlands & Islands Regional MSP, David Stewart raised the following supplementary question today at Topical Questions in relation to the disruption caused at Cal Mac Ferries.

The original Question was tabled by Regional MSP John Finnie (See the text below) :

To ask the Scottish Government what its response is to reports that widespread disruption to Cal Mac services is anticipated until the end of May.

David commented, “ I said to the Minister that he will be well aware of my high regard for Cal Mac, but the Cal Mac Community Board recently raised concerns about disruption caused by ferry failures in the fleet.

“I asked would he share my assessment that the age of the vessels is a key concern with eight more than 30 years old and over half of the fleet are more than 25 years old.

“ I then asked if the Minister could discuss with Cal Mac and the Community Board, the resilience of the fleet and the related issues of maintenance and dry docking?

“The Minister for Transport and Islands, Humza Yousaf agreed to hold these discussions which I feel is a positive step forward."
