Highlands & Islands Regional MSP (which includes Moray) David Stewart, was delighted to learn that the flood alleviation schemes installed by Moray Council prevented flooding in Moray.
David said ,
“ Yesterday and overnight persistent rain across Moray resulted in widespread surface water on roads and transport problems, but thankfully as I understand it no houses have been flooded, thanks mainly due to the installation of a flood alleviation schemes in Elgin at a cost of £86 million and Forres at a cost of £44 million.
“This will indeed be good news for many householders and hopefully these schemes will serve these communities well who have been blighted by flooding in years gone by”.
“ Of course with a lot of surface water still lying on road surfaces, drivers should drive to the conditions, leave plenty of room for braking behind other vehicles and where a route is totally submerged, do not risk driving through flood water.”
